After I read several motivational books that taught me about the power of the mind, I figured it was no harm giving it a try. I'm a very curious person and I always need the "why"s for practically everything. In any lucky draw, I will question myself why should I be so lucky? Why would they be so nice to me? Why should I go after something that I want, but is not realistic to have given my circumstances now? Why, why, why!

One day, I was watching a movie and this man was ranting on and on about why he shouldn't succeed in life and this lady asks him: "Why not?"

Exactly! Why not?! I've been limiting myself all my life because of the word 'reality'. I didn't know back then that we were responsible for our own reality. I thought 'reality' means 'get a grip of your senses' and not to 'dream about impossible things'!

Anyhow, after being exposed to all these mind power theories, I began to understand that we are responsible for our experiences. I wanted to change my life, but it wasn't easy. I had this large reservoir of knowledge but I had to test it for myself. However, I just couldn't set a huge goal immediately. I needed to convince myself that it is practically possible with small things first.

Unless I tested the power myself, all the knowledge wasn't going to do me any good. One day, I was in desperate need for a stamp. I live quite far away from the post office and my cousin sister was dropping by in an hour to collect my letter to be dropped into the mailbox on the way to Tesco. I knew I had one left somewhere in my bag but somehow, I just couldn't find it. I didn't want to trouble my cousin sister to go all the way to the post office to get a stamp.

For some unknown reasons, I just felt that I needed to visualise a stamp on my letter. I thought, here it is - a good opportunity for me to prove whether my mind is that powerful or not. So instead of seeing my letter without a stamp and feeling so upset by it, I visualised that there was already a stamp on my letter. I kept repeating thank you that my letter had a stamp on it. After doing this for 5 minutes, I went to make myself a cup of tea. I didn't need to continue searching for the stamp since I already 'had it', right? So I thought I'd make myself a cup of tea to relax a little. I didn't know how my letter was going to get a stamp on it in less than an hour, but I just knew that it would.

Halfway making my tea, someone rang my doorbell. My best friend Lorraine, who lives 2 blocks down the road, dropped by. I invited her in for tea and told her about how my cousin sister was coming to collect my letter, but I didn't have a stamp for it. Then I told her that I was experimenting the power of the mind that somehow I will get the stamp for my letter. Then bam! Instead of laughing at my story, she looked at me and said: "You know what? I think the power works after all. I do have some extra stamps in my handbag now!"

My jaw dropped. Who keeps stamps in their handbags??? I for one would never do such a thing! She gave me one and there it was, I had a stamp for my letter. Why did Lorraine choose to drop in at at time - just in time to hand me the stamp when I visualised for one??

That was all I needed to prove to me the power of the subconscious mind. When we can see it and believe it, we will get it!
